Elyse

For no charge whatsoever, this Silkwood Software-developed application puts an efficient means of managing your files at your disposal: tags. Tag your various files and sort them based on those tags. To make things as easy as possible, the application comes with drag and drop tagging, built-in duplicate management, a comprehensive Quick Start Guide, and a handy demo database.

Elyse is available for Microsoft’s Windows and for Apple’s Mac OS X operating systems. The installation file for Windows is 9MB in size. Run this file once the download completes, go through the on-screen instructions presented by a setup wizard, and in little time you will have Elyse up and running.

The first time you launch the Elyse file manager, you will be presented with a Quick Start Guide. You are very well advised to read this guide as it will help you figure out how to use the Elyse application. It must be mentioned here that Elyse comes with a demo database that you can load and play with; this database will help you better understand what you can achieve with the Elyse application.

Elyse’s interface is divided into three panes. From left to right they are as follows: a pane that displays your tags with tab for tag groups at the bottom; a pane that displays tag relationships and a browsing tree; and a pane that, when a tag is selected, displays the files with that tag.

You won’t have any problems using Elyse, especially if you read the Quick Start Guide and play with the demo database a bit. Just drag and drop a folder onto the application’s interface and it will be added to Elyse; the files inside the folder will automatically be tagged based on the folder’s name. Or just drag and drop a file onto the interface and it will be added to Elyse. Easily create tags by pressing the New Tag button and easily tag files or folders by dragging them to the appropriate tag.

As mentioned above, Elyse is freeware. You can use this efficient file management tool for free.
